Michael Berth

Native of Offenbach am Main, (Germany), growed up at Stuttgart (from the second year of life) and Hannover (from the eleven year of life), study of music (clarinet, piano and harpsichord) at Hannover, Hamburg and Milan, then afterwards, since the second half of the 1980's, an intense dedication to sound synthesis technologies. This dedication to these technologies represented the basic prerequisites in order to reach the works listed here.
In his compositions they are frequently simbolic elements which play a part for the evolution of a poetic-descriptive discours which stays naturally in a certain relation to the title of the work in question. This symbolism comes to acquire an other accentuation exactly thanks to the twine of the musique concrète (true sounds and noise from the environment).
In this context it's significative his multimedia exploration, including in some projects besides the matter of sound also this of
Digigraphics (Giclée-prints) as sometimes the video-art. His compositional language stays near to the transavant-garde-ambience, in which they are present different experimental streams (e.g. the utilization of electroacoustical instruments, several forms of sound-synthese, Physical Modeling applications, Live-electronics) and the musique concrète) which goes away in a considerable measure from a stiff-academic indoctrination, often also unconsciously initiated by that historical avant-garde of the sixties and seventies of the 20th century (Darmstadt school).
The last three compositions of the composition-list, with the yellow written titles, are impregnated by some of those already abovementioned streams, however, in a lot of more modest dimensions than with the orange coloured titles. These three compositions are instead of this from a definitely esoteric thread passed through in which is more likely present, however frequently attenuated, a tonal structure.
